Discretionary Services

Our discretionary investment management services are particularly suited to people who want to be kept up-to-date with their finances, but either do not have the knowledge or expertise to manage their own portfolio.

Our discretionary investment management services are particularly suited to people who want to be kept up-to-date with their finances, however, they may not have the knowledge or expertise to manage their own portfolio - perhaps because they lead busy day-to-day lives or because they are enjoying retirement.

We offer a number of options for clients to choose from depending on their personal circumstances.

Bespoke Discretionary Service

The bespoke discretionary service is tailored to suit your individual circumstances, objectives and timescales. For instance, a portfolio can be constructed to provide regular redemptions to pay for school fees or high levels of income to supplement a pension, or an increased risk profile to try and achieve higher levels of capital growth for when it may be needed in future years.

What are the benefits?

  • Your investments will be managed by a qualified investment manager.
  • The portfolio is managed according to your own objectives and risk profile.
  • The investment manager can take into account any sectors you do not wish to be invested in.
  • Investments will be made on a timely basis - there is no time lag between the decision to invest being made and the action being taken as there can be with the advisory service.
  • A full evaluation and review is provided every six months or more frequently to suit your preferences.
  • You can view your portfolio online using our client web access service.
  • You will have direct contact with your investment manager and can discuss any questions you have with them.
  • Stock held in our nominee name removes the risk of losing important paperwork.

What are the risks?

  • Investments and income arising from them can fall in value and you may get back less than you originally invested.

Value Portfolio Service

The Value Portfolio option is geared towards the creation and preservation of wealth over medium to long-term time horizons and exhibits risk characteristics best described as medium level. This portfolio is diversified geographically and seeks to gain exposure to emerging and frontier markets whilst relying on mature markets to provide a greater element of risk protection. Asset allocation will typically reflect Dow Jones/S&P500/FTSE100/250 stocks, corporate bonds as well as Sensex/Hang Seng/SET/TAIEX equity holdings and emerging nations' government debt.

What are the benefits?

  • Clients are kept up to date of the portfolio's performance on a monthly basis.
  • Client portfolios are managed by a qualified member of Somerset's investment management team subject to the oversight of the investment committee.
  • Clients are provided with direct access to the Value Portfolio investment manager and can discuss any issues or concerns with them.
  • Investments are made subject to client approval.
  • Clients can view the composition, allocations and valuations of their portfolio online using our client web access system.
  • Stocks retained in the Somerset's nominee account protects against the loss of important documentation.
  • Minimum portfolio size: $10,000.

What are the risks?

  • Investments and income arising from them can fall in value and you may get back less than you originally invested.
